Detroit Filmmaking Workshops 2025: DNA’s Summer Series Is Here

What up doe! If you’re part of Detroit’s vibrant film scene, you’ve probably crossed paths with the Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA)—whether at one of their legendary mixers or through their powerful support of Black and Brown storytellers.

For me, DNA has been more than just an organization. Their events have helped me meet other Detroit filmmakers, connect with collaborators, and even hire people for a few projects. They’re a real pillar of our creative community—especially for those of us building something with heart and hustle.

That’s why I’m excited to help spread the word about this year’s 2025 Summer Filmmaking Workshop Series

Here’s what they just announced:

🎬 Filmmaking Classes in Detroit This Summer

These aren’t just any classes. DNA’s workshops are designed specifically for Detroit storytellers who want to sharpen their skills and create work rooted in care, equity, and culture. Whether you’re just getting started or leveling up your craft, these sessions are made for you.

This summer’s lineup (July through September) includes:

  • Pitch Decks with Paige Wood
  • Screenwriting with Daniele Eliska
  • Producing with Eden Sabolboro

👉 These filmmaking classes in Detroit are open to Black, Brown, Indigenous, working-class, queer, femme, and longtime Detroit creatives 18+.

💸 Sliding Scale Tuition + Scholarships Available

Because of federal funding cuts, this year’s workshops aren’t free—but DNA is keeping them accessible:

  • Sliding scale: $75–$500
  • Scholarships available (don’t let cost stop you from applying)
